Somehow I think I missed this summer, it went by so fast. I think around the 4th of July I was thinking to myself, it’s about time for some summer fun… So I haven’t posted any pictures or blog articles for a while I guess. I don’t know if I’m coming or going, so if you see me, let me know which it is!
This summer we kept busy with Vacation Bible School, Bilingual Vacation Bible School, and with trying to scrape and paint the house. Maybe we’ll have some pictures when that gets complete. We really want to get the front done so the kids can play on the porch again.
Levi has been absolutely thriving in preschool this fall, and his vocabulary has expanded beyond count. He loves firetrucks and trains.
Finally, we found an opportunity to get a van we’ve been wanting for a while – we found a great deal in KC and couldn’t pass it up. Isn’t it purdy?

I stumbled across a page at NASA on when it is possible to see the space station as it soars through the sky. It was listed to be visible at 6:51 am this morning, and as luck would have it, Levi had us up at that time. Ok, that wasn’t so nice.
But I looked out the back window just in case. There was a full moon, and I could only see one star, so I wasn’t expecting much.
Oops! The station is extremely bright during these viewing times… It’s right as the station passes from their night to day, so the sun is bouncing off all the shiny stuff. It’s only visible near sunrise or sunset when the sun is slightly below the horizon. So I was able to see it easily without even having to go outside. It looked like a plane with landing light flying by, but going extremely fast. Next time, I’ll have my binoculars waiting…

When I was quite young, I remember our family going to see a WWII submarine in Oklahoma. Thanks to the power of the Internet, I can now learn a lot more than I did previously.
The submarine is the USS Batfish and had a pretty good record. Perhaps I might make the journey back down there sometime. On that website are the ships logs, a good read. I especially like comments like:
Submarine changed course to south and dove. Although he was never positively identified, I was reasonably sure at the time that he was the BALAO. However, later intelligence as to the BALAO’s whereabouts contradicts this, so now I don’t know. This is the second time this situation has come up and each time I’ve closed too much while trying to get ahead of him and on his track in order to dive, identify him undetected, and fire either torpedoes or smoke bombs. Next time we will stay out of sight and use a OUIJA board.
