Where did the Summer of 2008 go?

Somehow I think I missed this summer, it went by so fast. I think around the 4th of July I was thinking to myself, it’s about time for some summer fun… So I haven’t posted any pictures or blog articles for a while I guess. I don’t know if I’m coming or going, so if you see me, let me know which it is!

This summer we kept busy with Vacation Bible School, Bilingual Vacation Bible School, and with trying to scrape and paint the house. Maybe we’ll have some pictures when that gets complete. We really want to get the front done so the kids can play on the porch again.

Summer 2008

Levi has been absolutely thriving in preschool this fall, and his vocabulary has expanded beyond count. He loves firetrucks and trains.

Fall 2008

Finally, we found an opportunity to get a van we’ve been wanting for a while – we found a great deal in KC and couldn’t pass it up. Isn’t it purdy?

From Fall 2008

More pictures, graduation!

It was a fast but great weekend, attending my nephew and niece’s high school graduation. We got some pictures here, and a few more of the boys. Levi is now 3 years old!

Backup server pays off again, OSX Leopard ate my hard drive

My backup server just saved the day again. I just got the new OSX upgrade today, and partway through the install, it said an unknown error had occurred. When I tried to reboot, the whole hard drive was corrupted.

But, thanks to the backup server, I now have a fresh OSX install on my laptop, and I’m restoring all the data from the backup server. :)

More pictures of Jonathan

Everyone says the second child doesn’t have as many pictures as the first… maybe it’s because we get better at taking the pictures? Well, we do have some good ones in this batch. Levi seems to like the new baby sometimes, and we even caught a kiss!

Welcome, Jonathan Caleb!

Jonathan joined us this morning at 10:52am, weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces, and 19 inches long. The whole delivery went prefectly – it can’t be any smoother than that.

Anyway, here’s the early pictures:

Jonathan Caleb newborn

We are all enjoying being home.

We had been planning on doing a c section on Wednesday, based on the diagnosis of some potential complications – it was about a 50/50 chance, and we decided on that path based on the fact that it was more prepared for an emergency. However, we also prayed and believed that if God thought better of a natural delivery, He could send baby along sooner.

It happened sooner – labor started Sunday night. As a result, we started the process for a natural delivery. Somewhere in the middle of the night, it dawned on me/God convicted me that I wasn’t asking for the right thing – I had been asking for help getting through the complications, but God reminded me that He could make them disappear altogether. All I could think to say was…. “OK”.

And that’s exactly what happened. It was a perfect, normal delivery, and Becky had no complications or unusual bleeding. We just have to praise God for a wonderful experience and reminder that He really is in control.

Backup server pays off

I am so happy right now that I paid for an extended repair program for my Macbook Pro, and also that I built that backup server.

My laptop started to shut off before it was supposed to when running on battery. I called them up, and after about 10 minutes on hold and 10 more minutes of troubleshooting, they agreed to send me a new battery. (Still waiting for it to ship a week later though)

The really big relief came this morning… I woke up to find my main workstation dead. The hard drive is making bad noises. The good news is that the Western Digital drive was under 5 year warranty, and it was a simple process online to get a RMA number and get it replaced. Most satisfying of all, the backup server finished its nightly backup at 1am last night, so I haven’t lost any files whatsoever. grin

That’s the type of service I expect. Which is exactly the opposite of my roofing experience. I’ll save that for a later story when I’m not so upset.
